Eric Himel began his studies at the prestigious Parson’s School of Design in New York City where he trained under Project Runway’s dynamic style guru Tim Gunn. It was during this time when Himel really began to notice the power of fashion. “People assess you from the moment they meet you, and because of that, I wanted to teach others how to use their appearance to their best advantage”. Following graduation, Himel moved to Los Angeles where his career in styling began, then expanded his business across the country utilizing New York, Los Angeles and Chicago as his home bases.
Himel counts celebrities, socialites, business executives as well as everyone in between in his client book and regularly appears on TV expounding on style, discussing fashion do’s & don’ts and critiquing celebrities’ red carpet looks for the likes of Style Network, ABC, NBC, FOX, The LiveWell Network and The Shopping Channel.
Eric is a regular contributor to Us Weekly Magazine’s Fashion Police and Concierge Preferred and as a stylist who clearly gets around, Himel counts Giuliana Rancic, Ali Larter, Jenny McCarthy, Kristin Cavallari, Pete Wentz, Larsa and Scottie Pippen, two Bachelorette’s, Jillian Harris and Ali Fedotowsky, David Eigenberg, Ed Swiderski of The Bachelorette and Bachelor Pad fame, HGTV’s Alison Victoria and ABC Windy City LIVE’s Valerie Warner and Ryan Chiaverini among just some of his roster whom he has styled. Himel also regularly styles editorial shoots for top magazines including Life & Style, Good Housekeeping, Modern Luxury’s Chicago Social, NS and The Atlantan, Niche Media’s Michigan Avenue Magazine, First For Women, The Sun-Times, The Chicago Tribune and Los Angeles Fashion Magazine. In 2011, Himel partnered with Chicago’s Waldorf Astoria (formerly The Elysian Hotel), chosen by Conde Nast Traveler as the #1 hotel in the US, as their exclusive on-site stylist for their guests. When not styling celebrities or the talking fashion on the city’s top rated morning show, Himel is rattling off online his fashion edicts and seasonal personal picks with his infamous Himelisms.
Complimenting his saavy styling services, Himel begins with his signature Closet Purge ®. Himel’s mandate for getting dressed? “One should be able to close their eyes and pick out anything from their closet without hesitation or difficulty, put it on, and go.” After a personalized Himel-experience, your closet will be personally curated for you and your lifestyle, clothes will fit and you will be left with confidence and style when you walk out the door. Himel equates having a good stylist as essential to maintaining a positive sense of self, comparing his services as necessary and commonplace to those of a doctor, therapist or personal trainer.
Using his longstanding relationships with top boutiques as well as national retailers and fashion houses, Himel arranges exclusive, by-appointment-only excursions to shops where a personally hand-picked array of items are waiting for fittings. For clients with busy schedules allowing them little time to shop or those who prefer anonymity, Himel offers on-site consultations at the location of the client’s choice, be it their home or hotel. Himel’s globe-trotting clients may prefer to meet in various shopping destinations for his services or to comfortably rely on him to hand-select coveted items and have them delivered directly to their homes, even if he has never met the client face-to-face.
Ultimately, it is Himel’s personal relationships with designers and stores which gives him an insider’s access to the fashion industry allowing him to individualize each client’s experience. His eye for design and styling does not stop in the store – after the Closet Purge and the styling are complete, Himel finishes the experience with his expertise as the ultimate Closet Designer maximizing one’s space for the client’s newly curated wardrobe to be the pinnacle of organization, aesthetic harmony and functionality. Whether it’s a minor fashion adjustment or a total closet & style overhaul, Eric Himel customizes his services to meet the needs of his clients, making him one of the most accessible fashion stylists in the business.
